Jenaco has been awarded the plumbing and natural gas contract for 500 Claremont, a new six-story rental building in Westmount.
This project, led by the firm Axxys Construction, includes the development of 20 large, high-ceiling apartments and a parking ramp with radiant floor heating for the underground garage.
As well as building in compliance with sustainable development and energy efficiency principles, the developer is also keen to preserve the heritage elements of the original building that was erected in 1909. It plans to save the masonry on two sides of this classical style building.
The building has some distinctive features, such as the exclusive use of copper and cast-iron piping.
“Municipal regulations mandate such usage. It is not a problem in itself. This aligns with a robust construction approach for the residential sector that has proven to be reliable over time.”
Five plumbers have been working on the cast-iron and copper piping since March. Next, they will install and connect more than 200 high-end fixtures, including baths, showers, toilets, sinks, and dishwashers.
The team will also oversee installation of the natural gas components.
“Natural gas will be used to power the gas boiler, the two unit heaters, and the backup generator.”
The Jenaco team will also renovate the mechanical room with the gas water heater for the entire building, which was originally intended for institutional use. If work continues at the current pace, the company specializing in piping, plumbing, heating, and natural gas will have completed its work by the fall of 2025.
