Jenaco, a company specializing in piping, plumbing, heating, and natural gas, has brought its expertise to the construction of the new primary school in Saint-Constant.
Construction began in the summer of 2023 under the supervision of general contractor Decarel. “Everything is going really well. Both our teams are made up of young people who communicate very well together,” said Antoine Boutin, the Jenaco project manager.
The company is also responsible for the heating component for the school, in addition to handling the plumbing, drainage, and water supply. This includes installing a geothermal water network linked to heat pumps and fed by twenty-nine geothermal wells.
“Installing all our equipment and planning the layout of ventilation, electrical, and control systems in a small mechanical room was a real challenge.”
After consulting with other trades to determine their requirements, the Jenaco coordination and 3D design team began planning the space. “This team has done a remarkable job. Their efforts made everyone’s work on the site much easier,” added the project manager.
A team of 2 to 4 plumbers—depending on the phase of the work—must also fit out the mechanical room for water, where the water heaters and tanks will be located. Installation of sanitary equipment, sinks, and water fountains, as well as the finishing work, will all be completed by the end of the contract in August 2025.
The Centre de services scolaire des Grandes-Seigneuries (CSSDGS) has been calling the building "l'école des Horizons" (the Horizons School) since January 2025. The three-story facility is being built to meet the Québec government's requirements for a new generation of schools. Innovative architecture and flexible spaces to accommodate different learning styles and foster a stimulating school environment focused on co-teaching and collaborative work are central elements.
The new Saint-Constant primary school will welcome twenty-six groups of students, from preschool to sixth grade as well as special education students starting next September.
