Replacing defective or less efficient equipment is one of the many tasks handled by the Jenaco service department team. In this type of project, a number of constraints may easily arise, including considerations for user comfort and spatial requirements.

The team, led by Sébastien Haché, encountered several challenges they had to overcome while replacing the domestic gas water heaters in a 26-storey residential tower.
"The preliminary work is crucial," noted Sébastien. A comprehensive analysis is essential to ascertain the source of the problem and determine the most effective solution. The selection of devices requires thorough evaluation, taking into account performance, energy consumption, and the available space for movement and installation.
Then comes the on-site work.
“We coordinated our efforts to minimize, as much as possible, the impact the work would have on the residents’ comfort.”
Residents continued to enjoy hot water for three out of the four days needed to complete the work.
The most time-consuming part of the process involved dismantling the four tanks with integrated burners. They were then removed, and the new devices were transported up the stairs and through the corridors of the top three floors to reach the mechanical room.
After installing the more efficient equipment with a different distribution (six burners and three tanks), gas tests were conducted prior to starting up. This new generation of domestic water heaters allowed the team to arrange them in a manner that provided a bit of additional space, thus simplifying maintenance.
“Every day brings its share of challenges. You just never know what to expect. That means you have to be alert and enjoy racking your brains to find the source of a problem and to come up with the best solutions.”
